Alright already! We get it, we get it... You wanna read So Long, See You Tomorrow.

Well, your wish is happily granted. And I am equally excited to give the novel a go.

I'm going to make an executive decision on the spot and say that we'll be back to discuss the book on Monday, August 31st. I'd consult my partner in crime, Kelly, but she gave birth to a 9 lb. baby boy this afternoon... so she's been just a wee bit busy.

As for the rest of you bookish girls (and boys, although we never give you the credit you deserve)... Go, read, enjoy, come back and report. We can't wait to hear from you...

  1. Of the non-admins here, how are you keeping up on the comments of the blog? Do you check back? Would an RSS feed do the trick? I would like to keep up better with the updates. Thanks!

  5. Getting a little worried. Weeks ago when I mentioned I was heading to pick it up at the library, well said library doesn't "keep that book in circulation" (said with a snotty tone yes.)

Anyway, I bought it off of Amazon and am still waiting every day for that little piece of media mail to arrive... :( Hopefully it gets here soon....I have some major reading veg sessions ahead of me!

How is it going for everyone else???

  6. I caved and purchased from Amazon too (although now I'm a little worried!).

Amazon said it shipped yesterday. Fingers crossed that my copy gets here soon!

As a sidenote, I also ordered Olive Kitteridge at the same time. I read a couple of good reviews.

Anyway, I just noticed yesterday that it won the Pulitzer Prize for 2009. So, I'm excited for that one too. If it's good... guess where it's going.

Yup, that's right... Up for your consideration, folks.

  7. Perhaps I should have sprung for the $2.39 copy instead of risking it with the $.75 copy. It still hasn't arrived. Maybe someone who is getting $.75 for a book isn't too motivated to get it shipped off right away.

Should I be reading the cliff notes online????

    Have you received yours Melissa?????

  8. P.s. I liked your "15 books" blog post. I made my own list and immediately realized we are a different playing field when Babysitters Club almost took top spot. :)

  9. My copy looks like it's on track to arrive today according to the website. I hope so! We're going away this week and I'll need to read it while on vacation.

I was laughing at the Babysitters Club comment... because, seriously, I have a half-written post in my head (where I keep all my half-written posts, of course) about books, why we read them and what they do for us... and the Sweet Valley High series makes an important appearance in that (imaginary) post. Part of what I wanted to say is how those books (whether it be Babysitters, Sweet Valley, or dare I say it, for some...Twilight?!) have a place in our development as readers. (Thereby deserving a spot on our lists, even?)

Man cannot live by Tolstoy alone. Because that would really, really bite.

  12. I took Olive Kitteridge on vacation with me, but when I realized I'd read two of the author's novels last year at the beach (they were just so/so) . . . I opted not to start it.

  13. Just finished the book today. I want to talk about it while it's fresh on my mind but I guess I'll wait until Monday! A couple of things come to mind:
    1. Adultry and/or divorce (obviously) ... and how we can truly never foresee the implications of them.
    2. What a homemaker was in 1920 is so different from the role I play as homemaker. Where is my warm, fresh homemade bread? Where is my pile of clothes for mending? (like I even know how to mend - the closest I got to a sewing machine was in 8th grade Home Ec). I expect so much more from my husband ... with the children, with cooking, with the house, etc. Am I just lazy or what??
    3. I thought it was interesting how the 2 main boys really only played together for about a week - their paths didn't cross tremendously. And yet the narrator felt so much guilt for not talking to Cletus later in the book when he saw him again.
